The full Moon near Saturn just after dark on Thursday the 17th
The bright Moon will dominate our skies through the weekend but Jupiter is still the target of choice for evening viewing. It rises in the southeast early evening and is highest about midnight, although it won't get very high in the southern sky. Even binoculars will show the bright moons of Jupiter, with 1 to 4 of them being visible depending on whether one or more are directly ahead or behind the planet. The Moon is shown here when full on the 17th and will slide farther east each night through the weekend.
